Talking Rock Walks for a Cure

by Talking Rock 7. December 2011 23:14

In late November several Talking Rock residents participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure in San Diego.  The event hosted approximately 3,400 walkers and raised well over $9 million to fund breast cancer research and awareness efforts.  Walkers had to endure some rain, but it wasn't enough to dampen their spirits.

Boise & Don Taylor, Patti Price and Byron & Whitney Lynn all participated in the Walk among other friends and family members.  Here is a personal note from Boise Taylor:

"We would like to thank all the TR residents who so graciously supported our fundraising efforts.  The money raised, combined with personal friends and family, totaled a whopping $25,126.46"

Over the past three years, Boise and others have raised over $50,000 to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.  The residents and staff are so proud of their efforts and honored to be counted among their neighbors and friends.  For more information about Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and to learn how to donate, please visit komen.org.

Juni Fisher Performs at Talking Rock This Saturday Night

by Talking Rock 17. March 2011 03:15

Talking Rock Ranch welcomes award-winning, western and folk singer-songwriter Juni Fisher for a private engagement Saturday, March 19.

Recipient of the 2009 Western Music Association Female Performer of the Year and Album of the Year awards, Juni is known for outstanding songwriting, heart-wrenching vocals and exceptional guitar picking. Fisher’s accolades also include the first female to receive the Western Music Association’s Songwriter of the Year Award (2008) and the first female to receive the Western Heritage Wrangler Award for Traditional Western Album from the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

Fisher recorded her first Western release, “Tumbleweed Letters,” in late 1999. It was five long years before Gary Brown, director of the Monterey Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival, sought her out to perform at the 2004 festival. This performance launched Juni’s professional music career introducing her to other promoters and artists. That same year she released her second album, “Sideshow Romance.” In 2006 she released her third album “Cowgirlography” including the 2007 WMA Song of the Year “I Hope She'll Love Me,” featuring Sons of the San Joaquin's Joe Hannah. In 2008, she followed it up with the ambitious "Gone For Colorado," an historical album about her great grandfather's early life as a young cowhand. The album cemented Fisher's place among the finest songwriters of Western music.
